A Prayer for Distraction

As I focus in on shutting out the unnecessary, the unhealthy habits and thoughts, and all the extra noise out, I focus specifically on prayers to help my distraction. Lord knows it’s there! There’s plenty to worry about in life, and obsess over quickly! Today’s devotional really zoomed in on this.

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you. Therefore don’t worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Matthew 6:33-34 CSB

Jesus knew how easily our minds would wonder away and worry. We worry about finances, relationships, health, our future, and plenty of “what ifs.” We spend so much energy trying to solve future problems that we miss what God is doing today. I’m guilty of this!

The truth is, not every distraction is bad. Sometimes distractions are good things that have just become too loud. Responsibilities, goals, social media, news, and even the opinions of others can slowly pull our focus away from what matters most.

As I look at my life, I realize there are distractions I can easily remove, I just have to be willing to give those distractions up. Other distractions, like my worry for my mother, I need to surrender. There are voices I don’t need to keep listening to and burdens I was never meant to carry on my own.

My focus now is…..

Remove what no longer serves God’s purpose in my life and make room for what does. Easier said than done, yes I know, but we’re going to give this a shot. Less noise, less head clutter. Less worry and more time in God’s Word. More prayer, more trust. Remove the negative space and make room for the good!

I don’t want to spend my time chasing things that won’t matter in eternity. I want to seek God first, learn to put all my trust in Him, and be faithful to the calling He has placed on my heart.
